Other Horvath's

Other Horvath's from around the world...
When I originally created this page, I never dreamed of the responses it would receive. I had links to some of my family members, and mentioned that if any other Horvaths wanted to be mentioned on this page, to just send me some email. I have enjoyed hearing from Horvaths around the world. I have hopes that someday, someone may link up with a lost friend or family member via this page.

I was also very suprised when I was contacted by the Budapest Sun about doing a story on this page and all of the people that have contributed to it.

I did recently lose some email due to a hard disk crash, so if you sent me email, and you don't see anything here, please contact me again at bob@horvath.com .

First for the ...

Other Horvath's that I know

My grandparents, Joseph Horvath and Theresa Gregorin Horvath, emigrated from what is now Croatia to the United States, where they met in the Croatian community in Chicago when my grandfather was a boarder in the boarding house run by my grandmother's parents. Both of them grew up in small villages not far from Zagreb Croatia, although my grandmother's family came to Croatia from Slovenia.

The name Horvath , in our family anyway, was originally Horvat , but my grandfather was told at Ellis Island to put an 'h' on the end of it to make it easier for Americans to pronounce.

My father was named Rudolph Harold Horvath. He was born in 1915 in Chicago and died in 1986. His remains are at Arlington National Cemetary in Washington DC.

My father got me interested in computers at an early age. You very likely would not be reading this page were it not for him. He would have loved to see what the Internet has become, and especially all of the Horvaths that have contributed to this page. He would have enjoyed owning the horvath.com domain name, so when I saw it was still available, I decided to get it and pass it on to my own children. So often people say that babies look like old men. My first reaction when I saw my oldest son Ethan's face for the first time as that I was looking at my father, and in a way, I guess I was.

The picture at the top of this page, taken in 1919, is of my grandparents with my father on the little box, and my Aunt Lil.

My father married my mother Betty (Will) Horvath, while she was passing through Chicago with a friend on their way to Europe. My mother is originally from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. My mother's family has quite a story of its own, which some day I hope to do a web page on. My grandfather on my mother's side lived to be 100, so his story is particularly interesting.

On September 17, 1994, I married my wife Mickey. We met in Murphy's Bleacher Bums which is bar across the street from Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs. So yes, it is possible to meet someone special in a bar. After all, she puts up with all of the time I spend on the Internet!

Of course, our favorite Horvaths are our three children, Ethan, Ryan, and Lauren.

Ethan Michael Horvath was born on Father's Day, June 15th, 1997. Mickey went into labor almost exactly 24 hours after I had attended the Chicago Bulls fifth NBA championship game. Yes, Ethan's middle name is after the great Michael Jordan.

Ryan Patrick Horvath was born on January 22nd 1999. We were going to use Patrick as Ethan's middle name until I got to go to the Bulls game. Sorry, Ryan, I was the youngest of 5 kids, so I know what those hand-me-down's are like.

Lauren Joan Horvath was born on December 8, 2000. Our "new-millenium" baby. She is learning all kinds of things from her brothers (both good and bad).

My sister, Dawn Horvath Frase, is the only one of my siblings still in the Chicago area. Dawn is married to John Frase, who grew up in Riverwoods, IL with us, but in a different school district. While my brothers and I knew John somewhat as a kid from playing hockey on a nearby pond, Dawn didn't meet him until later in life. Dawn and John have two children, Heather, and Matt. Dawn can be reached at dfrase@allstate.com

My brother, Greg Horvath lives in Olathe Kansas with his wife Carol, and their daughters Nichole, Meagan, and Amy. Carol went to the same high school as we all did, however, Greg did not really get to know her until later. Greg can be reached at ghorvath100@comcast.net

My brother, Steve Horvath, lives in Salem, Oregon with his wife Diane, and their daughters Katelyn and Amber. They have their own web page, and can be reached at horvaths@open.org

My sister, Jan Horvath, is a professional singer based out of New York. Jan's Bio and schedule of appearances . can be found at http://janhorvath.com/. Jan's email address is jan@janhorvath.com.

Rose (Rosemary) Horvath Poller, of Columbus, Ohio, is a relative of mine, although I am not sure what the official classification would be. Her Dad, Frank Horvath, was the nephew of my grandfather. In fact, my grandfather was responsible for bringing Frank to the U.S.

Rose has four children all grown and all but one married who all live close by. They have 4 grandchildren, one just three weeks old. Her husband is semi-retired, but still in the insurance business and Rose works part time selling different lines of gifts. Rose can be reached at pollner@netwalk.com.

My wife's uncle Ernie Horvath (no relation, really!), owns Reliable Fire Equipment Company .

Horvath's I know from the Internet

If you are a Horvath, I will put a link so that others that may come here looking for you can find you. Just drop me an email. So far I have been taken up on this offer by the following people:

Editorial Note: I would like to mention that the listings here, for now, are in order of when I was contacted with a couple of exceptions.

The first exception is the first listing for Dan Horvath who is looking for his birth parents that were Horvaths I decided to put Dan first, as I think it would be really cool if he found his birth parents from this site.

The other exception is the listing for Alan Horvath whose web site at http://alanhorvath.com is so interesting that I felt it merited a little emphasis. Read on for more.

Dan Horvath, born Joseph Daniel Horvath in August of 1957 in the city of Yonkers, NY., is looking for his birth parents. He was put up for adoption at around 1 or 2 years old. The only other information he has is that his birth mom may have been an unmarried teenager who lived with her father at the time and that he was adopted out of the Angel Guardian Home in Brooklyn, NY. If you have any information that would be helpful, it would be appreciated. He is currently married with 2 children (2 boys) and lives in New York City. Dan can be reached at X7DAN@aol.com .

Alan Horvath's granparents both came to America from the same small village in northeast Hungary, near the Russian border. But they MET for the first time in Ohio!!! His Dad always use to enjoy kidding about the name of the town he was born in ... Painesville, Ohio ... "I was born in Painsville, baby." Alan was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey ... 6th child ... Mom's 4th pregnancy - her 3rd pregnancy was with triplets! His Dad spoke Hungarian, but none them us picked it up. Sad, but typical.

Alan is an acoustic rock musician. He plays acoustic 6-string guitar, using "open" tunings, and sings with raw sincerity. His songs are well crafted and have been praised by some of the best. If you like acoustic stuff with lyrics, you will like his music. Alan's music is reminiscent of Jim Morrison, Richie Havens, Jim Croce, John Mellencamp, Shawn Colvin, Tori Amos ... he doesn't actually sound like them, but if you like those artists, you'll like what Alan does.

In June of 1998, work with Bill Aucoin (longtime manager of KISS) led to a signing with Halfmoon Records in Greenwich Village, featuring Alan's artistry on two compilation CDs titled, "Discover New York City In Music." He can also be found on the "Artists for Peace - COLUMBINE HIGH BENEFIT CD" available at http://www.musicbuilder.com ... and on "THE KOSOVO REFUGEE RELIEF ALBUM" available at at http://www.mp3.com/kosovorefugees.

You can download 5 songs from Alan's first Cyber CD "Busy Being Born" at RollingStone.com. I picked up a copy of his CD at http://www.cdbaby.com/horvath/ and can't get some of the songs out of my head. If you have the capability to download and listen to MP3 files, I recommend giving his music a listen. If you live close enough to hear him live, his performances are generally in and around the NYC/NJ area, sometimes Pennsylvania, and New Haven, Connecticut.

Alan's web site, which shows he is a talented web site designer as well, is at http://alanhorvath.com. Besides being visually stunning, it also has MP3 and Real Audio versions of his songs and a wealth of informaton on acoustic guitars.

Alan can be reached at alan@alanhorvath.com.

Tobias Horvath is 14 years old and lives in Essen, Germany. His parents and grandparents were Horvaths His email address is tobiashorvath@cww.de , and his home page is at http://dango.home.pages.de .

Joseph C. Horvath, lives Sherbrooke, Que., Canada in 1982 from Budapest, Hungary. He moved to Tampa, Florida in 1992. He has 3 children; his daughters Mikolt K. Horvath (lives in Ottawa, Ontario) and Eniko Galgoczi (she is married, lives in Hull, Quebec), his son lives in Belleville, Ontario. His grandfather's name was Bogdan, ived in Tapolca, Hungary but lost his parents during a fire (around 1930, I was told) and was adopted by a family whos name was Horvath.

Joseph can be reached at jchorvat@ix.netcom.com .

John Horvath Jr., son of John (Janos) who was born in Petohaza in 1895. His father, now John too, always says when asked if related to another Horvath, "Yes, we ARE related--through Adam and Eve Horvath who you've no doubt read about". His family dates to about 1389 when Johannes (Janos/John) was in Macso-- now in the Voivodina region of Northern Serbia or Eastern Slavonia.

They have a version of this shield that replaces the moon with an Eastern Cross, the star is wavy, and the dolphin hauriant (rising). It's been with the family for years, he is told.

At some point his Horvaths moved to Hungary proper. The "John" name in his family comes from Janos who was born 12 December 1812 -- his great-grand father. His Dad (born 12 August 1890) told the story of coming to America just prior to WWI: at Ellis Island he was returned to ship as the "quota" had been filled. He jumped ship in Halifax, became a Canadian, and walked across to the US at Detroit (no quotas on Canadians). The irony is that he was escaping army service in a Balkan War, left Canada to avoid service in WWI, was drafted in the US and was aboard ship in the Atlantic on Armistice day!

John served in Vietnam and is a disabled vet (SF) from Desert Storm (what might Dad have thought!).

John Janos settled in Chicago where he worked as a pipefitter after the death of a first wife, Elizabeth, in 1941; in 1948 he remarried Elizabeth, John's mother, who was the daughter of Ida and Sandor Mitro from Nyirbator in eastern Hungary.

John is married to Cherylynn ( SofieO@aol.com ) and their children are Bronco, Janos, Elgin, and Anisa ( AMaxBear@aol.com ) who is on the JROTC rifle team (poor Dad!).

John is a poet whose work has been published in the US and abroad. He teaches Creative Writing (of course) and Anglo-American Literature and Criticism at the college level. They now live in Mississippi, but he is going to change that.

John writes the following about his understanding about the Horvath name:

The first wave of "Hungarian" immigration came in 1848. "Hungary" or that part of the Austro Hungarian Empire east of Bohemia, Austria proper, and Slovenia was in rebellion. Louis Kossuth and Csovath came to America with the wealth of Hungary to buy arms and support for the "republican" forces. The US government led by John C. Calhoun forbid the sales on the pretext that helping "slaves" ("slavs") rebel against their masters would set a precedence for British intervention in US affairs (in 1930s Britain blockaded slave trade from western africa). Kossuth and Csovath used the money to buy slaves and set them free. (In Nashville's northern Black community there are streets named for Kossuth and Csovath). The places set up for these Blacks to live (where they were welcomed)--Pittsburgh, WV, Cleveland, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Iowa (whose largest county is Kossuth County) and Saskatchewan--became settlements also where failed revolutionaries from "Hungary" settled after 1849. Thus, an "underground railroad" of escaped "slavs/revolutionaries and "slaves" are almost identical for those of our heritage and that of the blacks in America. There is a classic movie of the 1920s (cant find the name again) that dramatizes black and east european solidarity in the coal mine union strikes ("uprisings") in WV. A second wave of immigration in the 1890s sets up the NY NJ and LA communities. With a layer of newcomers (like the Mariellitoes in Miami) in those communities; The Denver community I'm told is largely from Erdelau (Translyvania) after WWI with an interesting movie (Ryan's Escape) about WWII Hungarian aid to US bombers pilots shot down during raids of Romania and Eastern German areas.

He sends another link to more Horvaths: Hungarian Who's Who Online . John's email address is horvath1@bellsouth.net , and has recently put up a nice web site at http://www.horvath.ws.

Rob Horvath of Toronto, Candada has a different story than most of the rest of us. One unusual fact is that they are Jewish and didn't start out as Horvaths. Almost all the Horvaths are Catholic, he believes. The reason is that to avoid persecution many generations ago, his great-grandfather changed his name from Herczovitz. His father is George, a retired cellist after 40 years in the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. His mother, Katherine's maiden name was also Horvath, also Jewish, also changed 3 generations back from Herzca (again spelling?) She was a pianist. His grandfather was originally from Transylvania, his mother's family from Budapest. His parents met in Budapest, married in 1944 before his dad was taken to a concentration camp. Luckily he survived. His mother hid in Budapest until after the war. They came to Canada in 1948. His mother's brother Tibor Horvath was a very well known photographer here in Toronto, with many international awards. He died unfortunately three years ago. His father's sister, Magda, moved to New York City. The rest of his extended family died in the hands of the Nazi's. He also has a sister, Janet, an accomplished cellist living in St. Paul, Mn. His wife, Ziporah, and he have four wonderful children. He works as a family physician in Toronto. He'ld love to know if anyone recognizes our story to help us trace our roots further. His email address is robert.horvath@utoronto.ca .

Mark Horvath is from the Chicagoland area (Calumet City) and is living out in the Wash DC area (Germantown, MD). In reference to the remark at the bottom of this page noting that Les Horvath was a Heisman winner, he points out:

In addition to Les as being a "..famous sports Horvath...", Bronco Horvath was an All-Star in the National Hockey League. One time sharing the goal scoring lead with Bobby Hull (remember him?) in the 59-60 season while with the Boston Bruins. I believe Bronco also played with Montreal and the Blackhawks.

Irene Mathers is searching for people who may be related to her and her family. Her mother's maiden name is Horvath, and like theother Horvaths that are talked about in this website, her family background is much the same. Her mother's family live in Saskatchewan, her grandfather ( John Horvath) was born in Saskatchewan, but his parents emigrated from Hungary. She is not sure of his fathers name, but she believes his mothers name was Marguite. They had fled Hungary because during WW1 they had gone against the government and worked underground helping slaves. She also knows that her great grandfather's brother had been taken to a concentration camp in Siberia during WW1, and they do not know if he survived or was put to death. None of them know what his brother's name is because her great grandfather would not speak of him. Her great grandparents had a few children. Her grandfather John Horvath married Mary Stonehouse and they had seven children her mother Debra (the oldest), John jr, Ellen, Margaret, Reggie, and the twins Denise and Dennis. (she is not sure if Margaret comes first or Reggie). They all are still living out west, except for her family, that now lives in Ontario.

Irene can be reached using the email of Neil Mathers .

David Joseph Horvath ( http://patriot.net/~dhorvath ) graduated from Ga Tech in 1990 with a BSEE and currently lives in Northern Virginia. David works for a small (but growing) IT consulting firm called CTX corporation http://www.ctx.com . He is the son of Edward Louis and Barbara Ann Horvath and is married to Dr. Laura Hutchision Horvath. They are very busy taking care of their 20 month old daughter Jacquelyn Elaine Horvath. David has two brothers Stephen and Peter; and two sisters Dolores Horvath Hudson and Margaret Horvath Osorio. Most of his family is still in Florida, where he was born and raised, but they do have links to some Horvaths in Ohio and Western PA.

David almost met one of the previous David Horvaths (the one that works for Chromatix, Inc.). Chromatix was presenting some information about their product to CTX and David was supposed to give the briefing. There was a lot of speculation floating around CTX about what would happen when two David Horvaths met. Most felt that the Universe would implode, a small minority thought that only the continental US would be affected. However, David had to back out and someone else gave the briefing, but keep your bomb shelters ready just in case.

David Joseph Horvath can be reached at dhorvath@patriot.net.

This David Horvath works in a casino in Atlantic City. Sounds like we need a Horvath gambling trip! David can be reached at DHor904602@aol.com.

His father is a professional engineer and his mother a real estate agent.

Michael Christian Horvath was born in '71 in Erie, grew up mostly in Columbus, OH, and now lives and works as a information technology consultant in Cincinnati. He spends his time with his wife, and he enjoys playing bagpipes.

He is currently in the process of researching his family's lineage in Europe. The S.S. Kaiser Wilhelm II brought over Mike Horvath's family in 1909. After a short stint in NYC, Mike's great grandfather and his family moved to Erie, PA. He was a middle class businessman, fluent in more than 4 languages. His grandfather, William Horvath, worked in the transportation manufacturing industry for General Electric in Erie until retirement in the late sixties. His eldest son, William J. Horvath, also a GE employee, grew up in Erie, got his masters in Engineering from Detroit University, worked a bit at GE, then migrated to Westerville, OH in 1982. He now resides in Phoenix, AZ.

Incidentally, the family crest may indeed be fake. There may indeed be a 'Horvath' coat of arms, but official coat of arms are granted to specific persons and their family. In order for us Horvaths in America to lay claim to the coat of arms depicted on the Horvath.com site, we must be able to provide 'adequate' proof that we are indeed descended from the individual to whom that coat was granted. The Dolphin on our coat is commonly referred to the Dauphin lineage in France... this raises some geographical issues which challenge the legitimacy of the Coat of arms above. An eastern cross instead of the moon would be the only item which be the real McCoy.

Mike can be reached at horvath@yahoo.com.

Nancy C. Horvath Fisher, married to Jay Fisher, is related to a Robert C. Horvath III mentioned on this page. He is Nancy's 2nd cousin. Nancy's father Daniel J. Horvath and his grandfather are brothers.

Nancy resides in the Detroit Metro area and Horvath is a very common name. When she tells people her maiden name, she is always asked if she is related to a Horvath that they know.

As far as her immediate family there is her mother Paula and her 3 sisters, Cindy, who resides in Houston, Texas, Cathy and Sue both of whom reside in the Detroit metro area.

Nancy can be reached at fisherj@dhol.com.

Steve Horvath Jr. from Cincinnati,OH is 24 and seeking his degree from the University of Cincinnati in Information Engineering. His great grandparents lived in Detroit Mich. He always hears of Horvath stories from Croatia. They are huge sports fans and always pull for the "family" back home in Croatia! That could've been us! His grandfather's name is Victor. Grandmother Natalie still resides in Cincinnati. Relatives here in Cincinnati include: Vicki Nikias(Horvath), Janice Czanik (Horvath), Mike Horvath, and his father Steve Sr.

Steve also says to look out for the basketball recruit from Minnesota going to Duke. (Nick Horvath)

Peter John Horvath (whose brother David Horvath ) is married to Gay Lynn Horvath. They have a 15 month old daughter Kayla and live in Clearwater Florida. Peter's sisters Dolores and Margaret are also in the area.

Peter is a technical computer trainer with many Microsoft certifications and a specialty in Database Design and Administration. He currently delivers courses with New Horizons Computer Learning Center (http://www.newhorizons-tpa.com).

Peter can be reached at peteh@tampabay.rr.com.

Shane Horvath lives in Barrie, Ontario Canada. His grandmother Margaret, her brother John, and her sister Mary all before marriage were Nemeth's (another good Hungarian name) and they all married into the Horvath family. He sent a chart to show you what went on.

    Nemeth's Horvath's
    Margaret (Shane's grandmother) Mike (grandma's husband....Shane's grandpa)
    John (Shane's grandma's brother Mary H. (John's wife and Mike's sister)
    Mary N. (Shane's grandma's sister) Joe (Mary N.'s husband and Mike's bro.)

Now the thing that is weird is that his Great-Grandmother (his grandma's mother) before she married into the Nemeth family obviously, her maiden name was HORVATH. But no relation to the Horvath he is today. Weird huh?? (Editorial Note: Not really, look for Ernie Horvath at the top of the page that is my wife's Uncle, but no relation - really!).

Shane was also just recently married in Dec of '98. His wife Jennifer was overjoyed to take the name Horvath after 24 years of the name Beatty.

Shane can be reached at horvathshane@hotmail.com.

He mentions that there are over 50,000 Horvats/Horvaths in Austria, Croatia, Hungary, Checz Republic, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia. Horvat is Hungarian name for Hrvat (even Croatians used this version in up until last century) which means Croat in English.

Yet another David Horvath writes from the Washington DC area. He works in Reston Virginia for Bell Atlantic Internet Solutions as an Internet Technical Support Specialist.

Dave's family heritage is a bit foggy since he doesn't know much past his grandfather who was brought over here from Hungary when he was a very small boy. His father is Stephen Paul Horvath and presently resides in Prescott Arizona. His father (David's grandfather) is Paul Horvath and lives on a small island off of Seattle called Whidby Island there with his wife Naomi.

When growing, while his parents were still married, his mother was Ann Horvath. My father took her and the rest of my family around the world in a adventure that followed from Naval post to Naval post after another and even having his Mother endure the time when he was doing his part in Vietnam. Dave was born in Rio de Janiero, Brazil along with his sister Shawnya. The family moved away when he was about 18 months old to Osaka Japan where his father was on board the USS Knox. From there they then moved to Hawaii for yet another mission aboard a ship for which the name he forgets. They then moved on to Sacramento California where he did his time as a Naval Recruiter and once that was up, it was time for yet another boat. The USS Valdez (no, it didn't spill oil anywhere) based out of Newport, RI. After that tour he was brought to his final duty post from where he would retire. This was in Washington DC working at DCMS doing cryptologics for the Navy. He also, while there, wrote a Naval computer program called ANCRS that got his Horvath name known around the Naval community. From there he retired in Prescott Arizona and I stayed in the Washington DC Metropolitan area to pursue a career in the Network IT field.

Dave Horvath can be reached at da.horvath@bellatlantic.net.

When Randy Horvath first saw this site, he thought I was his godfather who resides in Florida. He is married to an Esther and they don't know when to stop dancing at weddings. The last wedding he can remember, the bride (half Horvath, but didn't carry the name), and their family danced at her wedding until the band couldn't take it anymore. The band members were in their 30's. The groom's family left 3-4 hours earlier. Is this normal for Horvath's?

Randy's grandfather Joseph, he thinks, came over the "Great Pond" at the turn of the last century with his wife. What he knows is that they had 5 children, Uncle Joe, who married a beautiful woman like a rose, and lived in Cleveland, Ohio. He and his wife are now with the Lord. Aunt Millie, he believes is the second oldest, and she married a great man and they live in the Cleveland area still. Then there is his Aunt Bernie, a woman so good that she could have been born in Randy's generation and fit in perfectly. She married a German from Germany. He does't know where Uncle Al is, they parted company. Then you already heard of Uncle Bob. Lastly, my dad, Gus (a new Horvath first name on your list :->) who married a wonderful person in Youngstown, Ohio named Mary.

Randy's dad passed away in July 1982. His mother past away in April 1999. He is the only blood Horvath from his grandfather, but, is proud to have two cousins, Dave & Greg, to share the name. The rest of the family has bets on Greg and Randy to see who gets married first. Randy is 35 and Greg is about 33. We have never been married before.

Randy's sisters name from oldest to youngest (with children) are Barbara in Illinois (5 kids), Lorraine in Georgia (2 kids), Roberta in South Carolina (4 kids), Mary Beth in Ohio (Zero, yet we are praying), and then comes Randy.

Randy also mentioned that it is very difficult to tell people from the Southern US the name Horvath, especially when they pronounce it "harbat".

Randy can be reached at RHorv@aol.com.

Joe Harvat lives in Cincinnati. His family name was originally Horvath but his grandfather changed it to its present spelling sometime in the 1920s. His story was that local businessmen were getting him confused with gypsy families of the same name and were refusing to extend him credit. He changed it to the current spelling, which he imagines is the same as spelling Smith S-M-Y-T-H-E.

His grandfather's name was Joseph as well and emigrated from Abraham, Slovakia around 1905. He settled first in Cleveland, then in Akron, Ohio. He was the only member of his family to come to the U.S. In the last four years, Joe has re-established contact with their family members in Bratislava. He is hoping to go and visit them in the next year or two.

Joe only found out in recent months that Horvath means Croatian. He recently read about a group of Croatians that settled around Bratislava in the sixteenth century after fleeing the Turks. He assumes that those were his very distant ancestors.

Oddly enough, his Mom is Croatian (her maiden name is Pribonic). Her family is from a little town near Zagreb. It's prounounced Coe-MEN-it-zah but he hasn't a clue as to how it's really spelled. Their lives there are very difficult. During the recent war, they wrote to report that Serbian soldiers had taken up residence in their house.

His Horvath relatives in Slovakia, meanwhile, seem to be doing pretty well. Many of them have moved from the village of Abraham to Bratislava because there are more opportunities there. His cousin, Lubomir Horvath, is a scientist for Slovakia's Agricultural Department. He came to the States last summer on an exchange program and he got to meet up with him while he was visiting the University of Illinois in Champaign.

Joe can be reached at joseph.harvat@cinbell.com.

Joseph Horvath, is one of the many Horvaths that originated in Hungary. He writes with the following story.

Did you know that there was once a city in the mountains of Hungary named for our once famous bloodline? In fact, the word "Horvath" roughly translates to mountain in Hungarian. In World War 1, the mansion and vinyards that belonged to the Horvath family for so long were stolen from us by the Russian Communists. My family crest is a dolphin in water, a half moon, and a star. I would send you a picture, but it is not in paper form.

Shirley Mendoza is interested in finding someone with the last name, Horvath. It is her father. She recently was able to talk her grandmother into giving me this information that she so secretly kept all these years. This is her story, all that she knows anyway.

Shirley, was born on March 15th, 1964. Her mother's name is Inka Weber, also born in Germany. She met a man named Bob, Robert, Bobby. She isn't quite sure. She thinks he also went by the nickname "Dink", but the last name was definitely "Horvath". He is probably around the same age as her mother, around 54 - 58. In a picture that he sent with a letter, it looks as though he has/had blond hair. He served in the Military in West Germany, around 1963-1964. He was sent back to Ohio, She is assuming this because that was the return address on the envelope of a letter that he had sent to my mother. Shirley is told by her Grandmother that she looks allot like him, however that is all the information she has. Shirley now lives in Orange County.

Shirley can be reached at sjmendoz@uci.edu.

Max Horváth lives in the capital of Germany - Berlin. His nationality is German, too. His mother, Marina, is German (born 27 January 1955) and his father Andrej came from Slovakia (born 5 April 1952). Some years ago he became citizen of Germany too, but he died on 10 November 1999.

Max (born 22 November 1980), is a computer hobbyist, and is already developing two homepages and one (big and powerful) software for two companies. His mother's parents come from Germany where they still live. His grandfather, Karl-Heinz, was born 22 November 1926 (yes, they always celebrate their birthdays together) and my grandmother Erika was born 17 January 1927. They live a 10 minute walk from Max. His mother's brother (his name is Matthias) was born 25 January 1963 and he also lives close to Max, Almost the entire side of the family of his fathers's side (besides one brother) emigrated to Australia in the 80s. He doesn't know much about them. The only thing he knows is that there are living two brothers of Andrej (both in Sydney) and that the parents of his father also lived in Sydney. But the parents of his father died 2 and 3 years ago. The two brothers don't talk any word to each other - it's sad, but true.

Tracy L. Horvath was searching for links to her ancestry when she found this page and was greatly amazed at the number of different Horvath's that have written you. She quickly decided that she would tell you her story.

First, really what caught her eye, the second story on the other Horvath's page was that of a man named Alan Horvath. In the story it is mentioned that Alan's grandparents where both Horvath's born in the same small village in Hungary that met in Painesville, OH and then married.

Well, Tracy has the same story!!!! Her great-grandparents whose names where Stephen Francis Horvath Jr. and Margaret L. Horvath were both born in Gyor, Hungary and immigrated to America on the same boat, same date, from the same port in Hungary to Painesville, OH. They knew nothing of each other until they met in Painesville and later married.

According to the family tree that was given to Tracy by a family member, Stephen and Margaret had one child, also named Stephen Francis (the 3rd). Stephen Francis III then married Leona Gertrude Fees and had four sons, Ronald Stephen, Thomas Lee, Robert George (my father), and Richard Francis.

Ronald Stephen Horvath married April Poxon in Painesville, OH, had one biological child named Duane Justin Horvath, and adopted 15 other children, Tiffany Catherine, Melinde Johanna, Lance Christopher, Craig Jerrod, Jillian Elizabeth, Isaac Christopher James, Shan (pronounced "Shane"), Grant; Christopher, Marcus Steven, Sarah, Morgan, Zachariah Jordan, Mariah Michelle, and Kendall Mackenzie. Thomas Lee Horvath married Fredricka J. Mongenel in Ashtabula, OH and had 3 children, Stephen Francis Horvath IV, Kristina Lee Horvath (who has one child, Samantha Louise Fifolt) and Barbara Lee Horvath. They reside in Painesville, OH

Bob and Karen divorced on March 8, 1999. Their daughter Terry married Shawn Michael Bishop in Painesville, OH on September 27, 1997 and are currently awaiting the arrival of their first child in early July. Tracy graduated from Kent State University in Kent, OH in December, 1999 with a BA in Sociology of Sport and is engaged to be married on May 4, 2002 to Douglas J. Alaburda of Euclid, OH. She and her fiancee are in the process of starting their own company, D & T International Construction. All reside in Painesville, OH

This is only a small portion of Tracy's family. She would like to find out if she has any living relatives who live in Hungary at this time.

Tracy is now proud to report that her sister, Terry Horvath Bishop and brother-in-law, Shawn have welcomed a new baby girl into our Horvath family. Her name is Megan Marie and she was born on July 13, 2000.
